Strong Comet Lake H CPUs, potent Geforce RTX 2080 Super and a double display: This is the Asus ROG Zephyrus Duo 15
The Asus ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 is a 2.4 kg gaming notebook, the 15.6 inch screen in the equipment variant here shows games in 4K with 3840x2160 pixels and 60 Hertz. Asus still offers a Full HD version (GX550LWS), which plays games with 1920x1080 pixels and a refresh rate of 300 Hertz. The Full HD version is one of the first notebooks with a 300 Hertz display for delay-free and streak-free playback of the games. However, the 14.1-inch touchscreen that Asus has placed directly above the keyboard is more spectacular, similar to the Asus ZenBook Pro Duo presented in mid-2019. The second display can be used as an additional screen for open windows or programs, but if desired, you can also use it to enlarge the working area together with the 15.6-inch display. Great: After opening the Asus ROG Zephyrus Duo 15, the second 14.1-inch display is slightly angled (13 degrees) in front of the user.
This way, content can be viewed much better. However, the inclined position has another purpose: This gives the technology below it air to breathe, after all, a powerful motor works as the drive in the ROG Zephyrus Duo 15. Intel's most powerful notebook processor, the Core i9-10980HK from the cutting-edge Comet Lake H series, is used as a drive. It can distribute tasks over eight cores and pretend 16 operating units to the Windows 10 operating system via hyperthreading. The base clock is 2.4 gigahertz, for demanding tasks a single processor can work briefly with a whopping 5.3 gigahertz. New: The 5.3 gigahertz is achieved not only by turbo technology, but by "Thermal Design Velocity Boost". This means that it can briefly exceed the TDP limit (power loss: thermal design power) of 45 watts for a short time.
In the equipment version GX550LWS, Asus has installed Intel's Comet Lake CPU Core i7-10875H - also an eight-core processor that breaks the 5 gigahertz limit in the thermal design velocity boost mode with 5.1 gigahertz. In normal operation, the eight processor units of the Core i7-10875H operate at 2.3 gigahertz. No matter which version the customer chooses The processor is always supported by 16 gigabytes of DDR4 RAM with a maximum clock speed of 3,200 megahertz.
GX550LXS Nvidia's brand new RTX 2080 super graphics processor calculates the image rendering in the largest configuration. The chip has 8 gigabytes of fast GDDR6 graphics memory and distributes calculations to 3,072 Cuda units. They work at a rate of 1,080 megahertz, with boost it can also be 1,560 megahertz for a short time when calculating exhausting game scenes. The RTX 2080 Super has 48 ray tracing cores for accelerated calculation of effects, and 384 tensor cores for edge smoothing using resource-saving deep learning super sampling technology.

Nvidia's second-strongest RTX 2070 Super notebook graphics chip, which distributes calculations to 2,560 Cuda units, is given to the cheaper version. And they now work with a base clock of 1,155 megahertz, the short-term turbo clock is 1,380 megahertz. Like the RTX 2080 Super mentioned above, the RTX 2070 Super is particularly intended to accelerate the calculation of effects using ray tracing technology. The RTX 2070 Super has 40 separate processing units so that the performance does not collapse.
To prevent the lights from going out prematurely with this powerful technology, the 36x26.8x2.1 cm Asus ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 is equipped with a 90-watt-hour battery that can be charged using a large 240-watt power supply. Games, programs and data are stored on two M.2 SSDs with a fast PCI Express 3.0 connection. Depending on the configuration, they offer two 500 gigabytes or two 1 terabytes of memory.
The Asus ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 is available now. Even the "smallest" equipment variant GX550LWS with Core i7, RTX 2070 Super and 1 terabyte SSD storage costs 3,999 euros. And the version GX550LXS goes one step further: A whopping 4,499 euros are due for this one.
The Asus ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 worked really quickly and powerfully. Thanks to Intel's Core i9-10980HK, 32 gigabytes of memory and top graphics chip RTX 2080 Super, even the playback of exhausting 4K games with full detail reproduction are no challenge for the Zephyrus Duo in the test. The second display is a nice extra, and not only while playing. The equipment is complete, the workmanship is flawless - but users should definitely demand that from a 4,500-euro notebook.
